Bristol Eastern boys soccer opens season with victory at Windsor

Windsor

In their  season-opening CCC boys’ soccer match, Bristol Eastern defeated Windsor, 1-0, on Tuesday evening.   Matt Cabrera scored the game’s lone goal.

Both teams traded advances into each other’s side , but couldn’t get into the final third for the first fifteen minutes. Then the Lancers began to move the ball to the flanks where they found success.

Landon Gawel broke up a Windsor cross and hit the ball to Alex Szynal who sent a pass down the left wing.  Eli Emmert collected it, beat a man, and sent the ball across to the opposite side where Cabrera didn’t hesitate and hit a hard shot past  Windsor goalie Owen  Antonie at 20:00.

“Our defense was challenged, especially at the end of each half, but it got the job done, “said Lancer coach Bill Sweet. “Connor Murtaugh in goal was steady, while Drew Viens and John Saraceno, who guarded Windsor’s dangerous player, Nigel Martin, played extremely well in the back.”

The second half was even as both sides had shots, but they either went wide or the goalies made the save.   Antonie ended up with five saves for Windsor, while Murtaugh had seven for BE.

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
