In an afternoon contest Monday, the Wethersfield Eagles (4-1) beat the Bristol Eastern Lancers (1-3-1), 2-1 in boys soccer.

The match was fairly even for the first twenty minutes, but the Eagles began to dominate possession in the later stages and got their first goal at 27:30 when Oliver Pedneault headed in a Julian Kaye free kick.

“We started well, but the Eagles’ sharp passing gave them momentum,” said Lancer coach Bill Sweet. “Matt Cabrera and Sam LaMar made some great runs, but we couldn’t get a goal in the first half.”

Wethersfield’s second goal came when Camden Sharkevich cut in and knocked home a hard shot at 22:30 of the second half.

The Lancers came alive and were rewarded for their effort when Landon Gawel converted a Lucas Tylicki corner kick at 15:10.

Shots by Edy Hernandez and Eli Emmert just missed after crosses by Nathan Ash and Ledio Thanasi.

Wethersfield goalie Nathan Morris made five saves while Lancer keeper Connor Murtaugh had seven.

Eastern hosts Southington on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
