In an afternoon match at Falcon Field on Monday, Maloney edged Bristol Eastern, 2-1.

After being beaten.4-0, by Maloney in their second game of the year, the Lancers did better against the Spartans.   However,  Cristiano Cardentey was able to knife through the Lancers’ defense and score at 30:33 of the first period.

As in other games, Eastern had some good looks at the goal but their shots went high or wide.

“We played much better this time around, communicating well throughout the game, but Maloney’s two best players were able to get by us,” said Eastern coach Bill Sweet. “Our players worked hard the whole game against Maloney’s nine seniors.”

Maloney doubled the score when Youseff Machmech took a pass and beat his defender to knock home the game winner at 15:19.   Minutes later, the Lancers just missed on a corner kick, but at 1:28 cut the lead in half.  Hunter Scott took a shot that a Maloney defender knocked down with his hand.  That resulted in a successful penalty kick executed by Matt Cabrera.

Maloney’s Logan Brazel made 4 saves, while Eastern’s Connor Murtaugh had 6.

Maloney is now 8-2 for the season, while Bristol Eastern is 1-6-2.

Eastern’s next games are on Friday hosting Middletown at 3:30 and on Saturday hosting Thomaston at 5:30.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
