Local State House incumbents retained their seats against challengers in yesterday’s election, with Congressional incumbents defeating their challenges statewide and Trump and Vance defeating Harris and Walz by a thin margin in Bristol.
In Connecticut, Democratic candidates for the presidency and congressional seats swept, but the country went Republican with Trump-Vance taking back the White House and Republicans gaining control of both the House and Senate, although several U.S. House are too close to call.
These totals reflect unofficial results.
Cara Pavalock-D’Amato, the Republican incumbent in State House District 77 defeated Independent and Working Families candidate Mary “Mim” Rydingsward 6,655 to 2,958. Mary Fortier, the incumbent Democrat in State House District 79 defeated Republican challenger David Schrager 5,511 to 4,046. Fortier was endorsed by both the Independent Party and the Working Families Party.
In Bristol, Trump and Vance defeated Harris and Walz 14,187 to 14,038. In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Christopher Murphy (D) with 13,386 votes topped Matthew Corey for the second time with 12,894 votes. In the 1st Congressional District incumbent John Larson (D), 14,361, including Working Families votes, defeated challenger Jim Griffin (R) with 12,328.
State Sen. Henri Marting (R-31) and State Rep. Joe Hoxha (R-78) ran unopposed. Democratic and Republican Registrars of Voters Kevin McCauley and Jolene Lustani retained their positions, both running unopposed.
