The Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services department is gearing up for the 27th Annual Turkey Shoot Basketball Free Throw Contest, an exciting event for children ages 4 to 13. The contest will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Chippens Hill Middle School gymnasium.
The Turkey Shoot offers young basketball enthusiasts a chance to showcase their shooting skills while participating in a fun, festive family event right before Thanksgiving. Children aged 4-13, paired with an adult of their choice, will attempt 10 foul shots and 3 shots of their choice. The team with the best performance in each age division will win a $25 gift certificate to Price Chopper, which can be used to purchase a turkey for the holiday.
“This is such a great family tradition for us,” said Madison Fostervold, Recreation Program Assistant. “It’s wonderful to see families come together year after year, and we’re excited to welcome both new and familiar faces this time around. It’s a fun, laid-back way to kick off the holiday season.”
The event is open to all skill levels, from seasoned basketball players to those simply looking for a little festive fun. Teams will be grouped by age, with each division starting at different times:
- 9:30 a.m. – Ages 4 & 5
- 10:00 a.m. – Ages 6 & 7
- 10:30 a.m. – Ages 8 & 9
- 11:00 a.m. – Ages 10 & 11
- 11:30 a.m. – Ages 12 & 13

Spectators are encouraged to come cheer on their friends and family, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.
“Whether you’re a seasoned player or just here for the fun, the Turkey Shoot is all about having a good time and making memories,” Fostervold added. “We’re looking forward to seeing the enthusiasm from both the participants and the spectators.”

The Turkey Shoot is free to participate in, but pre-registration is required. Registration is available online at www.BristolRec.com, or participants can visit the Parks and Recreation office at 51 High Street in Bristol.
