November 17, 1949

Miss Margaret Neel entertained the members of the Bristol Music Club at the on Thursday, Nov. 17. The theme for the evening was “Spanish Music.” Piano selections, including “Le Pollichielle” by Veela-Lobos and vocal pieces, including Argentinian and Mexican folk songs, were presented.

November 18, 1949

270 children in the primary and preschool grades received their second diphtheria inoculations on Nov. 18. The third and final inoculation will occur next month.

The Bristol Boys club announces a “Turkey Shoot” will be held for midgets and juniors in the Junior Room of the Boys Club next week. The prize for this dart contest will be a turkey, donated by Minella’s Market.

November 21, 1949

Bristol High School presented letters to those who sported Bristol colors in soccer, football and cross-country to at a special sports assembly on Nov. 21. John Reardon also presented the school with an award for their “extraordinary achievement” in the Latin Department, received last week from the Association of the Promotion of the Study of Latin. Coaches Thomas Monahan (football), Albert Caswell (soccer), and Joseph Bloom (cross country) awarded awards and letters to members of their teams. At the same assembly, Shirley Allaire, who will head the cheer leaders, introduced the corps that will lead the student body in support of the basketball team on Thanksgiving night at the game at the State Armory against alumni.

November 19, 1949

City Treasurer Montcalm F. Maynard was presented with a pen and pencil set Saturday Nov. 19, at a Victory party at the Club Champlain celebrating his reelection in the Oct. 3 city election.

Plainville Resident Ethel R. Brown writes in to the Press that after reading about roses still in bloom in the area, she felt compelled to report that she has recently found green leaves and fresh yellow blooms on her forsythia!

Novemeber 22, 1949

Lou Bachman, reporter for the Bristol Press, will be the speaker this evening, Nov. 22, at a meeting of the Seicheprey Post of the American Legion. Mr. Bachman will discuss news gathering on a local level.

Thomas Monahan named his starters for the BHS vs. alumni basketball Thanksgiving game: Albert Jabs (center), Ted Brennan (co-captain), Jerry D’Aprille (co-captain), “Ming” Micucci, and Hugo Usala. The alumni lineup is set as well: Captain Roger Grandbois will be joined by Lucian Fortier, Rene Dube, “Juice” Noel, and “Ottsie” Tracy.
