HARTFORD – Governor Ned Lamont announced that Connecticut businesses will see a 6% decrease in workers’ compensation insurance rates starting January 1, 2025. This reduction marks the eleventh consecutive year of rate decreases, continuing a trend of declining insurance costs for employers across the state.

The Connecticut Insurance Department approved an annual filing for 2025 that includes a 6.1% decrease in voluntary market loss costs and a 6.2% decrease in assigned risk plan rates. The reductions come as a result of a sustained decline in workplace injuries and filed claims, which have contributed to lower overall insurance premiums.

“These positive trends are good news for Connecticut employers and their workers,” Governor Ned Lamont said. “Workplace safety continues to improve, and business owners are better able to manage costs and invest the savings back into their operations.”

Connecticut’s workers’ compensation insurance rates have steadily decreased over the past decade, with the latest savings bringing the total premium reductions to more than $400 million for employers since the trend began. The ongoing rate decreases reflect improvements in workplace safety and a lower incidence of claims, which directly benefit both employers and workers by reducing the financial burden of premiums

“Workers’ compensation insurance is critical so workers can know they are protected as they work to support their families, and for business owners to help care for the health, well-being, and safety of their employees,” Insurance Commissioner Andrew N. Mais said.

The revised rates, which were proposed by the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) in September, are based on both past and projected loss experiences. The Connecticut Insurance Department’s approval of the rates follows a thorough review of the filings.
