Bristol community members kicked off the holiday season with a slam dunk of fun at the Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) Department’s 27th Annual Turkey Shoot Basketball Contest.
Held indoors at Chippens Hill Middle School on Saturday, Nov. 23, the event brought together athletes, families, and fans for a morning filled with friendly competition and community spirit.
“The Turkey Shoot has become a beloved tradition,” said Recreation Program Assistant Madison Fostervold, “and it’s wonderful to see both new faces and familiar ones coming together for some friendly competition. It’s all about community, fun, and getting into the holiday spirit. We are so fortunate to offer the Turkey Shoot to our residents at no cost, which removes a large barrier when it comes these types of special events this time of year.”
The Turkey Shoot contest featured youth athletes, ages 4 to 13, competing alongside an adult teammate to sink as many foul shots as possible. Divided into five age-based divisions, the competition offered an exciting opportunity for families to bond over basketball while celebrating the start of the holiday season.
The winning teams from each division received a $25 gift card to Price Chopper/Market 32, which could be used to purchase a turkey for Thanksgiving.

Attendees also had the chance to win additional raffle prizes, such as new sports gear, tickets to basketball games, child pool memberships, gift cards, and more. Each youth participant also received a commemorative 27th Annual Turkey Shoot Basketball Contest t-shirt.
The Bristol Parks Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department will host the 28th Annual Turkey Shoot Basketball Contest next year at a date to-be-determined.
