BRISTOL— The American Legion Family of Post 2 in Bristol held an open house on Saturday, Nov. 30, to collect toys for the Bristol Police Department’s annual Toy Drive.
The event, open to both members and the general public, brought in a generous number of toys, thanks to the community’s support and the kindness of those who attended.
The toy collection is part of the Legion’s ongoing efforts to give back to the community during the holiday season. The donations will be distributed through the Bristol Police Toy Drive to ensure that local children in need receive gifts this Christmas.
In addition to the toy collection, the post hosted a special meal for veterans and their spouses on Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, offering a hot turkey dinner to those who had nowhere else to go for the holiday.
This year’s turkey meal was especially poignant, as the post marked the loss of former Past Commander Richard Schreiner, Jr., who had cooked the turkeys for many years. Schreiner, who passed away just weeks earlier, had been a dedicated member of the post and a beloved figure in the community. Despite the loss, members of Post 2 rallied together to prepare the meal in his memory, ensuring the tradition continued.
The toy collection and holiday meal are part of a larger effort by the American Legion Family of Post 2 to support the local community and honor veterans during the holiday season.
