The Bristol Public Library is inviting the community to celebrate the holiday season with two free live music events this December.
Historian and musician Richard Franklin Donohue will explore centuries of Christmas music, while The Dickens Carolers will perform festive tunes in a lively, a cappella style.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. The Dickens Carolers will take the stage, performing classic holiday favorites in a spirited, a cappella style. The costumed quartet will offer a mix of Victorian-era carols and modern holiday standards, including songs like “Let It Snow” and “Winter Wonderland,” infused with a jazzy, upbeat flair.
The group has performed widely at private events, churches, senior centers, and libraries across the region, and has been featured annually at the Shakespeare Festival in West Hartford since 2005.
On Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m., Richard Franklin Donohue will present an extraordinary repertoire of Christmas carols dating back to the 10th century, continuing through the 19th century. These timeless songs will be performed both in their original languages and in modern English, with a blend of a cappella and harpsichord accompaniment.
Donahue’s unique performance offers an opportunity to experience carols as they were originally sung, providing a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of holiday music.
Both events are free of charge, however, attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance due to limited seating. Reservations can be made online at bristollib.com, by calling 860-584-7787 ext. 3, or by visiting the library in person at 5 High St. in Bristol, CT.
