The Bristol Sports Hall of Fame hosted the captains and senior leaders of Bristol’s high school sports teams at their winter Leadership Breakfast on Wednesday morning at the Giamatti Center.
Karin Pryzgocki, a 2020 Inductee of the Hall, spoke to the group. She highlighted the importance of movement and aerobic activity throughout their lives. She referred to the book Spark, by John Ratey, and explained that his research shows how important exercise is.
Ratey’s book discusses the evolutionary origins of the mind-body connection and how exercise optimizes brain function and supports mental health. Pryzgocki stressed the benefits of exercise on the mind and body, and how important it is to stay active after someone’s athletic career is over. The message was that everyone needs to keep moving and playing throughout their lives.
The Hall of Fame hosts three leadership breakfasts each school year in the fall, winter and spring seasons. Different topics of importance to high school athletes are addressed at each breakfast.
