The Katherine Gaylord Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will host a Wreath Across America ceremony at the Lewis Street Cemetery in Bristol on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at 12 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event, which will honor veterans and active-duty military personnel.

The Bristol ceremony coincides with thousands of similar events taking place nationwide, including Middletown, CT, as part of the annual Wreath Across America observance. According to the Wreath Across America website, over 4,600 events will be held across the country this year.

This year’s ceremony will feature the participation of several distinguished veterans from the American Legion, Post 2. Joe Caminiti, a 100-year-old World War II veteran and the last known Iwo Jima survivor in Connecticut, will lay the wreath for the Marine Corps. Dick Fitz, a 99-year-old World War II Navy veteran, will lay the wreath for the Navy. Bob Barnet will lay the wreath for the POW/MIA.

Additionally, the Katherine Gaylord Chapter will conduct a Missing Man Table ceremony as part of the event, a first for the chapter’s Wreath Across America ceremony. The American Legion, Post 2, will provide the POW/MIA table and chair for the ceremony.

The event will serve as a tribute to fallen veterans and will include the laying of wreaths on the graves of local veterans at Lewis Street Cemetery.
