75 years ago this week

On Friday, Dec 16, at the Wallace Barnes Alley’s the Get-Together Club celebrates its 30th anniversary. The event will feature a match between the Old Timers from the Springmakers teams of 30 years ago vs. the Horton Mfg. Old  Timers. The Springmakers won 452 to 379.

Two oil paintings by Wilfred I Reynolds of Queen Street are now on exhibit at Tuttle’s Wall Paper and Paint Store, 21 North Main Street. One of the paintings is a unique arrangement of fruit and the other a landscape. Mr. Reynolds, who retired as a house painter two years ago indicated that he has many paintings at his home, which he would be happy to show anyone. He also does paintings upon request.

Eighty-five male customers  took advantage of “stag night” at Dorothy’s last evening, Dec. 16, when the management remained open to give the men an opportunity to make purchases for their ladies. The men were aided in their purchases by the regular sales ladies and the presents were attractively wrapped.

Ray K Linsley, Jr., a Bristol native and son of Mrs. Ray K. Linsley of Federal Street is co-author of the recently published book “Applied Hydrology” from McGraw-Hill Book Company. The book is presented as a text and reference book for engineering students. Mr. Linsley attended Federal Hill School and Bristol High School. He was valedictorian of his high school class.

Local Girl Scout Troops have made Christmas packages for the patients at Bristol Hospital on Dec. 17.

Councilman Dmitry Komanetsky, chairman of the Sewer Committee announced on Dec. 19 through City Engineer Clair Pfennig that proposals for constructing sewers on Farmington Avenue, Mix Street, Tolland, Barbara and Coventry Roads will be received until Friday, January 27, 1950.

Christmas sales are booming, and George W. Quinn, chairman of the Merchant’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce reports that due to a surge in last-minute shopping, sales totals may reach last year’s numbers.
