Tolland visited Bristol Central on Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams. It was a close and competitive game. Central only trailed by two with five minutes remaining, but the Eagles pulled away for a 70-61 victory.
Bristol Central took an early lead as they were connecting from three point territory.
Tolland found their spark in the second quarter and started to score the ball at a high level. The Eagles went into halftime with a five point lead.
Tolland held the lead for all of the second half. The Rams were able to cut the margin to two midway through the 4th quarter, but ended up falling short.
Joey Pikiell led Bristol Central with 21 points, making 5 threes, as well as grabbing 7 rebounds. Sophmore Malakai Holley played well in his first varsity start, scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Jayden Sokolowski was a spark off the bench for the Rams, hitting 3 three-pointers.
Tolland’s starting point guard Cam Lumia was the Eagle’s leading scorer with 23 points.
Bristol Central is now 0-1 on the season. Their next game will be against Weaver at Trinity College in the GHPA Classic.
