American Legion Post 2 is calling on the public to assist in identifying any living World War II veterans residing in Bristol, Connecticut.
“The American Legion is looking for all World War II veterans,” said Neal Supranovich, historian for American Legion Post 2. “At this time, I know of five veterans alive in Bristol. There may be more, and we need your help to locate them.”
The veterans will be honored at a statewide ceremony in 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The event, which will recognize the service and sacrifices of all living World War II veterans, is being organized in partnership with Connecticut Veterans Affairs Commissioner Ron Welch and Major General Francis Evon of the Connecticut National Guard.
“It is my honor to host a ceremony to recognize all living World War II veterans, having served at any time from December 7, 1941, to December 31, 1946,” Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz said. “The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 19, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Governor William A. O’Neill State Armory, 360 Broad Street, Hartford, CT.”
Bysiewicz emphasized the importance of honoring these veterans, who she called “members of the Greatest Generation.”
“It is because of their service and sacrifice that we live in a free and democratic state and nation today,” Bysiewicz said.
Anyone who knows of a World War II veteran living in Bristol is asked to contact Supranovich at neals1910@gmail.com.
