The Bristol Eastern boys basketball team, playing in the finals of the Bristol Central Holiday Classic, defeated Capital Prep by the score of 85-52 Monday night.
Eastern’s defense overwhelmed the Trailblazers from Capital Prep in the first half. They forced 16 turnovers and came up with 12 steals. The Lancers raced out to a 40-17 lead at the intermission.
Capital Prep scored the first hoop of the game, but then Eastern ran off fourteen straight points, leading to a 23-8 lead after one period of play. Zaveyn Tate, Jacob Kingsley, and Stone Lowe each scored five points in the quarter, while Naseem Walker added four.
In the second period, BE outscored Capital Prep 17-7. Jordan Chisholm led the Lancers with 13 points in the quarter. Two of his six three-pointers came in the second stanza.
In the second half, the Eastern siege continued. BE led at 61-33 after three periods of play. In the fourth quarter, they continued their hot outside shooting. Chisholm scored four three’s, while Tygue Collins and Drew Martineau each added one.
Chisholm scored 29 points, Tate scored 15, and Lowe added 10 points as the leading scorers for BE. Walker, DePass, and Kingsley each added seven points. Ten BE players hit the scoring column. All thirteen players on the roster contributed minutes.
For Capital Prep, Syre Gillespie scored 33, including all of this team’s 16 third quarter points, and Javaris Spencer added 11.
Eastern is now 4-1 on the season, while Capital Prep falls to 1-2.
The Lancers next host Plainville on Friday. January 3 in a 6:45 start.
