The Bristol Eastern boys basketball team defeated Plainville on Friday night. They led from start to finish. The final score was 65-52.
The Lancers raced out to an 18-7 lead after one period of play. Zaveyn Tate played strong at both ends of the floor, scoring on three inside moves and playing strong defense inside. Naseem Walker added two threes in the period.
The second period saw Eastern open up a 16 point lead. Plainville then closed it to a 33-28 deficit at the half. Jordan Chjsholm’s two three’s paced BE in the period. For Plainville, Brady Wieczorek scored seven points and Christian Marfia added six. They sparked the late period comeback.
Two minutes into the third period, with the score at 33-30, Eastern exploded with a 20-3 run to open up a 53-32 lead after three quarters. The Lancers got two inside hoops from Chisholm. Then, a hoop on a floater in the lane by Walker put Eastern up 39-30 with 4:55 to play. Tate scored on a steal and lay-up. He then got a steal and assist for the next hoop. Brady Bell’s baseline three pointer made it a 46-30 Eastern advantage.
The onslaught continued for the rest of the period. This gave the Lancers their 21 point lead as they went into the final quarter.
Plainville’s Marfia scored 12 points in the fourth quarter. He primarily scored on drives to the hoop and cut into the Eastern lead a bit. However, it was not enough as the Lancers came away with the win. Marfia finished with a game-high 27 points.
For Eastern, Chisholm with 17, Tate with 13, and Walker and Bell with 11 each were the leading scorers.
Eastern is now 5-1, while Plainville falls to 2-4.
The Lancers get right back to work tonight in a home contest with Watertown. Game time is at 6:30.
