Bloomfield edges Bristol Eastern boys in thrilling final second ending

In a very closely contested and competitive game, the Bristol Eastern boys basketball team lost to Bloomfield Monday night. The final score was 64-63 in a game played at Bloomfield.

It was a 13-12 game after one period.  In the second quarter, two late three’s by the Lancers’ Jacob Kingsley led to a 30-30 tie at the half. 

BE took the lead to start the third with a three-point shot by Dante DePass. They maintained that lead until the end of the game. The Lancers were on top 39-37 following a three point play by Zaveyn Tate (an offensive rebound and put-back, plus a foul shot).

Eastern then went on an 11-0 run to open up a 50-37  lead.  Jordan Chisholm had a four-point play (a  three plus a foul shot). Chisholm then hit a second three and Brady Bell scored on a feed from Tate. Chisholm finished the Lancer run with one more hoop. 

But then Bloomfield went on their own 11-0 run to close the gap to 50-48 with a minute to play in the third.  Tate’s offensive rebound at the buzzer gave Eastern a 53-50 lead going into the final period. 

The teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter. Eastern always held the lead, but the Lancers never led by more than four points.

Late in the period, Tate rebounded a missed Bloomfield shot. He fed Naseem Walker, who then passed to Chisholm for a three-point play. The Lancers led 63-59 with 1:30 to play.

Bloomfield’s Cayden Smith hit a three with 1:12 to play cutting the Eastern lead to 63-62. On their last possession, Smith fed Jeff Acoff for a driving layup and Bloomfield had the lead with 23 seconds to play.

Following a time-out, Eastern missed their final shot, and the Warhawks McCoy Richardson snared the rebound. Bloomfield came away with the win, 64-63

For Eastern, Chishholm with 25 points, Kingsley with 11, and Tate with 7 points were the leading scorers.  Tate was also dominant on the boards for the Lancers.

For Bloomfield, Dior Burgos with 18, Smith with 14, and McCoy Richardson with 11 led the scoring.

Eastern is now 6-2, while Bloomfield improves to 5-1.

The Lancers next play at Northwest Catholic Friday night at 6:30.
