A severe cold weather advisory is in effect for Bristol as temperatures are expected to dip into the single digits and teens this week. The City urges all residents to take precautions and be prepared for dangerous winter conditions through Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
As part of the severe cold weather protocol, the Bristol Public Library has been designated as an overnight warming shelter for those in need. The library, located at 51 High Street, will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Wednesday.
If the library or other local shelters reach capacity, individuals seeking shelter should call 211 and press option 5. A specialist will assist with finding additional shelters or warming centers in surrounding communities.
In addition to the overnight shelter, several daytime warming centers are available throughout the city:
- Bristol Public Library, 5 High Street
Monday through Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. - Agape House, 43 School Street
Monday through Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Closed on Sundays - Brian’s Angels, 99 Summer Street (entrance located at the rear off Center Street)
Tuesday through Sunday: 12 to 3 p.m. Closed on Mondays
The City also reminds residents to check on their neighbors, especially the elderly, and to take extra care when traveling in these extreme conditions. Additionally, it is against the law to leave animals outside during severe cold weather.
