Bristol Central had a tough road matchup against the sixth ranked team in the state Monday night, facing Northwest Catholic. After a promising start for the Rams, Northwest eventually pulled away for an 82-51 decision.
Central came ready to play and wasn’t going to back down against Northwest Catholic. And in the first half, the Rams gave the home team all they could handle.
In the first quarter, senior Joey Pikiell was 4 for 4 on three-pointers. He finished the quarter with 14 points, paving the way for Bristol Central. The Rams ended the quarter with a lead of 20-17.
In the second period, Northwest began to turn their attention towards Pikiell, and other Central players stepped up. Gavin Chamberlin was handling the ball well for Central as well as distributing the ball to others.
Midway through the second, Northwest started to score more effectively. They led the Rams at halftime 36-32.
The Lions of West Hartford came out in the second half looking like a different team. They forced Central into multiple turnovers. This allowed Northwest to get out in transition and score in bunches.
The third and fourth quarters featured many Northwest fast break baskets, Central struggled to answer. The final result was a convincing victory for the Lions by the score of 82-51.
Pikiell led the Rams with a very strong first quarte, finishing with 16 points. Chamberlin contributed with 13 points and 6 assists. Sophomore Malakai Holley had 7 points and 5 rebounds.
Central’s record now stands at 2-5. The Rams next game is on Wednesday, January 8, when they host Hall at 6:45
