The Bristol Eastern girls basketball team led wire to wire Tuesday night and defeated WCA (Waterbury Career Academy) by the score of 51-28.
Autumn Udoh scored 26 points to pace the Lancer offense, while Cassie Sward scored nine and Jayle Evins-Mosley added eight to the Lancer cause.
In the first quarter, Udoh scored from close range, hitting on four hoops, and Eastern led 11-6. .
In the second quarter, Udoh opened with a three, then added two more buckets as the Lancers went out to a 26-14 lead at the half. Sward, Emily Zurowski, and Evins-Mosley collaborated to score eight points in the period. Malinna Figueroa led the WCA Spartans with eight points, helping them stay in the game.
In a low-scoring third period, two threes from Sward gave the Lancers enough to maintain their advantage. The Eastern lead stood at 36-22 going into the final eight minutes.
The Lancers outscored WCA 15-6 in the final quarter, coming away with the 51-28 win. Natalia Vye, Amanda Noel, Evins-Mosley and Udoh scored the final 15 points in a balanced final period for BE.
Eastern improves to 4-3 on the season and will host Northwest Catholic on Friday night. With the loss, WCA drops to 3-4.
