Governor Ned Lamont announced today that Connecticut’s severe cold weather protocol will be extended until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan, 10, 2025, due to updated weather forecasts indicating that the current stretch of frigid temperatures will continue for at least one more day.

The protocol, which was first activated on Monday, Jan. 6, was initially set to expire on the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 9. The extension will ensure continued protection for vulnerable populations as the state faces prolonged extreme cold conditions, which can be life-threatening if exposure to the elements is prolonged.

During the activation of the severe cold weather protocol, a series of measures are put in place to safeguard the health and safety of residents, particularly those who are homeless, elderly, or otherwise at risk. Shelters and warming centers are open across the state to provide a safe refuge from the cold.

Connecticut residents in need of shelter or a warming center can call 2-1-1 for assistance or access an online list of available locations at 211ct.org. In addition, transportation to shelters or warming centers will be provided if necessary.
