Bristol Eastern girls fall to undefeated Northwest Catholic, 46-35, Friday night

The Bristol Eastern girls basketball team hosted an undefeated Northwest Catholic team and dropped a 46-35 decision on Friday night.

It was a game of two totally different halves. Eastern outscored the Lions 18-12 in the first half. Northwest came right back and outscored the Lancers by the margin of 34-17 in the second half.

Cassie Sward gave Eastern a quick 3-2 lead in the first quarter, hitting a baseline three. Eastern led 12-8 after one period.

Autumn Udoh scored 11 of her game high 18 points in the first half, including a big three at the end of the half, as BE built their 18-12 advantage.

The first half featured the strong Lancer team defense, solid rebounding from Udoh and Jayle Evins-Mosley, and poor shooting by the Lions.

NWC junior captains Abigail Casper (17 points), Zoey Canning (13 points), and Maeve Staunton (13 points)  came on strong offensively in the second half, leading the Lions to their win.  Canning and Casper scored 13 of the 16 third quarter Northwest points. The Lions came back and took a 28-26 lead going into the final period.

After Eastern’s  Amanda Noel’s put back of her own  missed shot midway through the final period cut the Northwest lead to 32-30, Northwest then outscored Eastern 14-5 over the final four minutes. Casper and Staunton combined for 16 of the 18 final period NWC points to lead to the Lion victory.

Eastern is now 4-4 on the season, while NWC improves to a perfect 10-0.

The Lancers have three games next week, traveling to Platt on Tuesday, hosting Ellington on Thursday, and traveling to Enfield on Friday.
