Central boys lose to Simsbury Friday night

By Joey Pikiell

On Friday night the Bristol Central boys faced Simsbury in a rematch of a tough overtime loss to the Trojans earlier in the season. No overtime was needed as Simsbury pulled away in the final quarter for 58-49 victory.

Simsbury struck first. Neither team could find their rhythm offensively in the first period. It ended with Simsbury holding a 9-3 lead.

Simsbury started strong in the second quarter, while Bristol Central continued to struggle. Central sophomore Malakai Holley then stepped up. Holley hit four three-pointers helping Bristol Central rally and take a narrow 21-20 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw both teams trading baskets, but Simsbury closed the quarter on a 9-0 run, pulling ahead 41-34.

The Trojans maintained their lead in the final quarter and secured the 58-49 victory.

Holley had an outstanding game for the Rams, finishing with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Gavin Chamberlin contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. And Quincy Lawson added 11 points and 6 rebounds for BC.

Central’s record now stands at 2-7.

The Rams’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14th, when they travel to Rocky Hill.
