Connecticut residents have the chance to name 12 snowplows across the state as part of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) annual Snowplow Naming Contest. After CTDOT employees submitted their creative suggestions, the public is now invited to vote for their favorite names.

“CTDOT snowplows are some of the most visible vehicles on our roadways and they deserve special treatment,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto. “I hope residents from across the state will join the fun and help us name the next batch of plows in our snow fighting fleet.”

CTDOT operates more than 630 snowplows that clear state roads and highways during winter storms. The fleet includes a variety of plows, such as single axle plows with 9.5 feet of plowable width, triaxle single wing plows with 17 feet of plowable width, and tandem axle tow plows with 26 feet of plowable width. A mix of these different types of plows will be named in this year’s contest.

This marks the third annual Snowplow Naming Contest. Previous winners included names like Buzz Iceclear, Husky McSalty, Scoop Dogg, SnowBob Plowpants, and Fast & Flurryous. A total of 12 plows will be named this year, with three plows selected from each of CTDOT’s four maintenance districts.

To participate, residents can visit ct.gov/dot and click the Snowplow Naming Contest link or go directly to the voting form here. Voting will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025. The winning names will be announced by the end of January.
