Glastonbury dominates in boys basketball contest over Bristol Eastern Friday night

Eastern coach Bunty Ray instructs his players during a time out against Watertown.

Glastonbury’s boys blitzed Bristol Eastern in the first quarter Friday night, outscoring the Lancers 19-2 en route to a 69-42 victory.

Glastonbury was a well-balanced team, both offensively and defensively, and the Lancers had difficulty making stops and running their offense.

Glastonbury’s David Smith scored fifteen of his team’s nineteen points in the first period assault. The only Eastern points were scored on a Ty Collins hoop three minutes into the quarter.

Smith finished as the only Guardian player in double figures, scoring 24 points, as eleven Glastonbury players hit the scoring column.  Glastonbury shot 12-of-23 in the first half (52%), leading 32-11 at the break,  while Eastern shot just  5-of-22 (23%).

The second half was a continuation of the first. Glastonbury opened the second half on a 8-0 run. The Lancers were now down by twenty-nine points at 40-11, three minutes into the second half. The Guardians hit on eleven three pointers in the game,  five by Smith, and one each from six different players.

For Eastern, Jordan Chisholm scored 18 points, all in the second half, while Ty Collins added eleven.

On a positive note for the Lancers, the Eastern JV team defeated Glastonbury 72-68 in overtime. Ryan Gaity scored 30 points and Stone Lowe 17.

And the Eastern Freshmen remained undefeated with a win over Glastonbury by the score of 65-32. Shaun Byrd with 13 points, Justen Dauphinais with 12, and Zaiden Mickens with 11 were the leading scorers.

Glastonbury is now 10-1 on the season, while Eastern falls to 6-5.
