Board President, David Fortier, a Bristol native, lives here with his wife, Mary. They raised a bunch of kids, who have since started their own lives after successful college experiences. He teaches high school English in Rocky Hill, Conn., where he is also the adviser of the student newspaper. He has been involved in journalism in one way or another since 1985. He was a founder of a short-lived weekly, Bristol Today, began in 1998, as well as a columnist in another Bristol weekly through 2016. Prior to that he was a reporter and then editor of a state-wide weekly. He has a master’s in journalism education from Kent State University. Currently, he is the Journalism Education Association state director.
Secretary Rit Carter is a life-long Bristol resident, who along with his wife Laura, have raised their family here. Carter has dabbled in the arts, including comedy, screenwriting and music. His latest efforts have him delving into Bristol history and local government. Among his contributions to TBE is his work on two former slaves who found their way to Bristol after the Civil War and an terrific account of a Lutheran pastor who was brought up on and convicted of sedition during WWI. He works full-time for the State of Connecticut.
Treasurer Jack Krampitz is a life-long Bristol resident, who along with his wife June raised his family here. Krampitz is a retired English/History teacher and long-time coach, who is currently the president of the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame. Aside from his duties as treasurer, Krampitz edits and posts most of the stories that appear on TBE. He specializes in local economic development issues as well as covering city hall.
